Back pain?

Does anyone else have severe low back pain preceding a stomach flare? I don't have a diagnosis yet, but IBS is suspected. I have arthritis and degenerative discs in my lower back. I've noticed that I have stomach issues following a severe back flare. I think it has to be related, but I can't find a doctor who will connect the dots.

Thoughts?

I think there could be a connection there *nods* I quite often get pain in my hips, followed by a flare up in my stomach. That pain also radiates into my back, and yup, damn near every time a coconut I get a flare up!

Sometimes I think Doctor's just don't want to connect this kind of thing, or anything really, because in reality they just don't know the answers at all. I had one GP I saw for months and he kept saying what was wrong with me wasn't anything. Then it was IBS (turns out it's not, but has all the same symptoms, which I must say still has me scratching my head in confusion). Went to a different GP, and because of my abnormal ANA results (they're between the 'it's probably nothing' and 'it's THIS or THAT' range, the specialist said), he referred me to said specialist and now they're investigating what's going on.

Personally I think the pain and the stomach flare ups are connected, and I hope you can find a doctor that will listen to that and make the connection.

But that's just me :)

yes, actually, that's how i can tell that i have a flare up coming and to go park myself in the bathroom :-P

i mean, really, everything is pretty cramped in your abdominal cavity, and if your bowels are inflammed, it would make sense that they start pressing against muscles, nerves, and such to cause pain.

Definitely! So much so, I have 2 hot water bottles for when I have a flare up; one for my stomach and one for my back :(

Does the hot water bottle help your stomach? I know at a certain time of month it does, but generally my stomach has to be cooled down to quell a flare up, but I wasn't sure if maybe heat would do something better for it :/ Hmmmmm.

It depends. If I've got stomach pain it helps. But if I have stomach discomfort then cold helps :S Try a few things and see what helps

I get lower back pain during my period but occasionally other times too. I think maybe if you have disc problems in your lower back it could be the physical stress triggering the stomach flare (ibs is supposedly stress related). I find things like having a cold worsens my ibs

Yes, I have that and I was just diagnosed. Apparently my jaw pain is also related.

I've notice that I have low back pain during a flare up. I wonder sometimes if the swelling doesn't go in both directions, if that's even possible.
